Underground LA 8.0 & 9.0 (8th-9th grade)

The eighth-grade year marks an important step in our teenagers’ post B’nai Mitzvah Jewish Journeys. It’s a stepping stone between cartoons and college, and we’re overjoyed to be along for the ride. It is our hope to develop and maintain close connections with our teens throughout their young adult experiences, starting with the eighth-grade year and continuing well into high school graduation and beyond.

Presenting Temple Aliyah’s newest educational component for Eighth grade: UndergroundLA 8.0!

Over the course of the coming year, we’ll discuss and discover new, unexpected places across LA with “hidden” Jewish roots. Our unique approach pairs classroom learning with off-campus excursions to places and spaces our teens learned about earlier that month. We are so excited to turn our county into a classroom!

How does it work?

Teens meet with Rabbi Vogel, our Rabbinic Intern Jonathan Hodson and our Youth & Teen Engagement Director Sarah Kayne one Tuesday per month, with short trips one Sunday per month with Sarah and Jonathan. Transportation is provided for all UndergroundLA excursions.

But we’re busy!

We know, and we’re listening. That’s why UndergroundLA only meets twice a month. Tuesday sessions last for 90 minutes from 6:15-7:45pm with an option to stay after for dinner and added fun with Sarah. Sunday trips vary in timing/location, but will always remain in the 12:30-4PM Sunday afternoon slot.

We’re here to answer them! Please feel free to e-mail Sarah Kayne, at skayne@templealiyah.org.
