Israel – prelive

Israel

Connection to and support of Israel is one of Temple Aliyah’s five foundational pillars.

History– It is important to understand the history of the Jewish people in its relationship to the land of Israel.  Through the years of forced Diaspora the Jewish people always hoped for a return to their homeland.  This dream became a reality in 1948 with the founding of the State of Israel.

Current events– In its struggle for regional recognition and security, the political landscape of Israel has become very complicated.   We encourage every congregant to become knowledgeable in the current events of Israel in order to, where appropriate, take a stand.  We are a congregation that encourages civil dialogue on all issues.

Action– We are in the process of forming an Israel Action Committee that will schedule Israel programs and organization social action projects to benefit various organizations in Israel.  If you are interested in joining this committee please contact our Rabbinic Intern Scott Shafrin at sshafrin@templealiyah.org.

AIPAC (American Israel  Public Affairs Committee)- In an attempt to continue the strong support of the United States government to support the security of Israel, we have an active group of congregants who support the efforts of AIPAC through membership, attending a Valley dinner and sending delegates to the annual Policy Conference in Washington D.C.  If you would like information regarding AIPAC please contact Anna Williman the synagogue office.    http://www.aipac.org/

Masorti– Masorti is the name of the Conservative movement around the world (aside from North America).  Masorti means “traditional” and refers to the goal of retaining the traditional observances the Jewish people.  Temple Aliyah supports the efforts of the Masorti movement in Israel through our participation in an annual dinner and encouraging congregants to donate on their own.  http://www.masorti.org/donate.php

Mercaz- is the Zionist membership organization of the Conservative Movement, the voice of Conservative Jewry within the World Zionist Organization, the Jewish Agency for Israel, the American Zionist Movement and the Jewish National Fund to support religious pluralism in Israel and strengthen the connection between Israel and the Diaspora.  Each member of Mercaz increases the power and ability of the Conservative movement to influence decisions and gain financial support.  We encourage our members to join Mercaz, either on our synagogue membership form for by contacting Mercaz directly.    http://www.mercazusa.org/

Israel bonds– In support of the State of Israel, Temple Aliyah engages in an annual High Holy Days Israel bond drive.   Whenever Temple Aliyah members purchase Israel bonds we encourage them to indicate Temple Aliyah synagogue affiliation (if possible) in order to recognize our congregational support for this important endeavor.
