Children & Teens High Holy Day Programs at Temple Aliyah

Camp Tekiah (18 months – 5 years old)

Temple Aliyah is delighted to offer a new and exciting program for our youngest members during the High Holy Days. Each day will be filled with fun projects (challah baking, playdough, bubble play, block building, music) and Enrichment Activities (sports and fitness). The cost is $45 per day ($25 for Kol Nidre). Parents must have High Holy Day Tickets.

CAMP TEKIAH is available for children 18 months – 5 years. California law requires one adult for each ten children, therefore we must have your reservation no later than August 31, 2015.

Holy Rollers (for grades K-6)

All children from Kindergarten – Sixth grade are welcome to join us for a fun and meaningful High Holy Day experience here at Temple Aliyah! Throughout the day, our children will participate in an interactive and spiritual service and in activities that explore the richness of the customs and traditions of the High Holy Days. Children will be grouped by grade-level and will remain in their group for the entire program. Free for children of members and non-members with High Holy Day Tickets.

For the safety of your children, children may only be signed in or out of the program by a parent.

The time you bring your children to the High Holy Day Experience must correspond with your High Holy Day tickets (Early or Late service).

*Please be aware that although the sanctuary services may begin earlier and end later, we can provide supervision and programming only at the times listed above.

Totally Teens (for grades 7-12)

Join us for unique teen-specific programs and High Holy Day services where we will explore the themes of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur through cooking, art, projects and fun discussions. Free for teens of members and non-members with High Holy Day Tickets.

Nosh With Friends – Rosh Hashanah Experience for Teens (Grades 7-12)

Some of our fondest Jewish memories happen around a dining table. We laugh, we learn, we share stories—we come together as a Jewish community. Join us for a new and vibrant service designed to welcome all our teens to a memorable and meaningful Rosh Hashanah.

On the menu:

  • Sparkling Pomegranate Juice (Make Your Own Izze!)
  • Apple Cinnamon Ice Cream with Honey Whipped Cream
  • Raisin Challah Bread

#DailyMitzvah – Yom Kippur Experience for Teens (Grades 7-12)

We are all superheroes. Each and every one of us has the power to smile at a stranger, hold open a door or help someone carrying groceries. Join us for a fun and thoughtful session focused on making the most of each day and remembering the responsABILITY we have to help those around us.

Program includes:

  • Knot My Problem: Being a Better Resource to Those in Need (Friendship Bracelets included)
  • Designing Tefilat HaDerech (the Traveler’s Prayer) Key Chains
  • Making Origami Mezzuzot

HHD JETS – Jewish Educators in Training (for grades 9-12)

We are so excited for our new High Holy Day Jewish Educator-in-Training (JET) Program for 2015-2016! JET is the newest component of our Sevran Center for Jewish Learning and Living (SCJLL) Madrichim (Teaching Assistants) program. Our community based, goal-oriented series will empower our teenage teaching assistants to hone and develop their problem solving, leadership and classroom management skills by assisting with High Holy Day programming for children Grades K-6.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Worked as a Camp Counselor or CIT at either a Day or Sleepaway Camp (Must provide references) and/or
  • Volunteered as a Camp Yofi CIT for Summer 2015 (Must provide references) and/or
  • Enrolled as a JET for School Year 2015-2016 (Must provide references)

*Eighth graders enrolled in our JET program for coming year are eligible to work as High Holy Day JETs.

Teens who do not fulfill our eligibility requirement are invited to interview with one or more representatives from our Youth and Teen Program/Sevran Center for Jewish Learning and Living. JETs will be selected on a first come, first served basis. There is a limited number of slots for High Holy Day JETs. Teens who are not enrolled in our High Holy Day JET Program will be unable to volunteer day of. All JETs are required to attend one of two mandatory training sessions.

Please note our High Holy Day JET Program is a 2-3 day commitment. Teens will not volunteer at a time their parents are not at shul. Teens will not volunteer with more than one service per day.

Too young to be a JET? Don’t worry! Join our Teen Community at “Nosh With Friends” (Rosh Hashanah) and #DailyMitzvah (Yom Kippur). These fun, engaging sessions are the perfect places and spaces for your teenager. We are looking forward to a meaningful High Holy Days!
